Lower Gronhovd was a half-farm with 180 units of value. Here wasTorstein.
he owned 16 permanent pieces of property in Strand after aninheritance settle-
ment in 1615, but he sold this property in 1631 to Halvor Sole.Torstein
Gronhovd owned the farm until around the 1630's. The son NilsTorsteinsen
was born around 1595 and was married to Taran Olsdatter. When shedied in
1648 there were 44 units of value in Tveiten (Halsteinrud) and 44 inlower
Gronhovd to divide. Other wives to Nils were Anne ReidarsdatterBergan.
He had two children with this first wife: 1. Torstein, married to TuriStein
arsdatter Frovoll, and owned the farm. 2. Ase, married to Helge Skar.
Nils owned 10 units of value in Gronhovd, 2 1/2 and 1/2 property inSole,
5 in south Engar, 3 in Norstegren and 3 skins in Odegren (1650), 21/2in
Tveiten and 2 in Halsteinrud (1648). He paid a poll tax himself in1644
and was a juror in 1654. Nils was an old man and lay in "Querleye" in
1673, he had the farm as late as 1677. It was transferred in 1667 for
15 units of value, but it was worth a great deal more than 10, it fed1
horse, 10 cattle, 5 calves and 19 sheep, here were both "Granskov andSag-
tommer" and a mill. There was a settlement after Nils Gronhovd in1679.
He divided out properties in Sole that were dowries to the twochildren
from before. Now there were 90 silver coins in chattels, 10 units ofvalue
in Gronhovd and 5 in Halsteinrud to divide. The inheritors of AseSkar
got the estate in Halsteinrud, while Torstein got Gronhovd. Torsteinhad
now lived in Halsteinrud and had cleared and built much there. Hetherefore
inherited 2 1/2 units of value in Sole after Ase Skar. AnneReidarsdatter
died before 1684. She had, before she died, sold the deserted farmKir-
kerod in Svindal --- owing 1 pound and 6 marks of butter ---- to Peder
Ambrosiussen Bergen. The three last years she lived with TorsteinHakonsen
Kopseng and paid 12 silver coins a year in rent. It was her cousinsfrom
Bergen who inherited from her.
