[184] Name might be Bensley.
He was in in Boston 1632. He was Freeman in 25 May, 1636. He and hiswife crossed the ocean in 1630 in one of the 11 ships of the Winthropfleet and settled in Boston. He called himself a yeoman, which inEngland implies a class of home owners, farmers or mechanics who werea class above the peasantry. He became a member of the first church ofBoston on August 2, 1635. He was elected one of the 4 constables inMarch 1648/49 and was honored in March 1650/51 by being on a committeeto lay out highways to the new meeting house. He was later madeEnsign. In 1656 he acquired membership to the Ancient and HonorableArtillery Company. He had several misdemeanors which brought himofficial criticism. In August 1650 he was ordered " to remove away hisoyster shells from the Towne's hye way before his dore" by the firstof the eleventh month or pay 20 shillings. In May 1656, he was finedten shillings for receiving into his home some person who had notreceived the town permission to become an inhabitant. He estate wasinventoried at over 251 pounds, with the house and land at Bostonmaking up to 140 pounds of that amount.
