Steinar took over the farm about 1628. Helge var odelsbonde her i 1617
Sigdal og Eggedal, Andreas Morch p. 984
Frovoll. The Frovoll estate was big. It covered everything west of
Storelva from Juvet in the south, even all of Vestbygda. It was earlyon
eivided into portions with a settlement of the children. In adivision by
Rotevad in Haglebuelva in 1328, "Kitil Frovavollum and Halffuarder son
Hans" were with. We have the division letter in a transcript from the
1600's, so the style of writing of the name is little to pay attentionto.
1. Aluer a Froyuollum is named in 1334.
2. A diploma which is most likely from around 1458, in a transcriptfrom
1692 in Kodalen, makes known that Olav Sigurdsen and his wife Margrete
Gjermundsdatter sold goods in Kodalen.
The letter has unclear dating, but Sveinung Anderson (written
Efuenunger Anbiornsson) who was a pastor in Sigdal, and GunnarHalvorson
was a juryman, --- the same Gunnar is often named as juryman in the1450's
It must be reasonable to surmise that this Olav Sigurdson is the samewho
the Olav Frovoll who owned the farm until he died before 1471. Thatyear
Gunna Olavsdotter gave her consent to the transaction that her father,
Olav, made before he died, when he sold the entire estate of Frovollto
Bjorn Halvardson.
Bjorn entered into (negotiations) with her here. The uncle ofGunna,
Ketil Rolvson, had asked Gunna at the time of the transaction if shewanted
the inherited portion in Frovoll after her mother or if she wanted themoney
that this property was worth. She chose the money, as she says inthis letter
which is written at Flagan.
3. It is perhaps the same Bjorn who was a juryman in 1476.
4. Bjorn Halvardson was with and inherited by a settlement atGulsvik
in 1482.
5. The following year he sold half of Ringnes in Krodsherad around
"Langa Flathen and to Swartaberg". The buyer was Gudulv Ringnes.
6. The portion between Vetrhus in Nore and Frovol, Medalen andRugland
was given up in 1524 from Hugnespreng over Kareflaten, Fjellvatnet,
Mjeltenattinden, Myrdalsbekken, Hogefjell to Slokooset.
7. Asle Frodeuolanswered for the (Estate's boundaries?) in 1528. A
Tore Frovoll was juryman in 1541, he was dead before 1569. IngeAslesdatter
at Frovoll had, before she died, promised Ulv Levordson to get Pletanand
Rud because he was the inheritor there. In 1568 Steinar HallvardsonKravik
in Nore and his wife Ragnhild Torsdatter with two sons and abrother-in-law
gave a deed of conveyance to Ulv of the named property. After thisthere
should be a familial relationship between Kravik and Frovoll. TheHallvard
name also hints at this.
Then in 1587, when there were taken up witness about how longMedalen
had been in Frovoll peoples' domain, there were named the owners ofFrovoll
at the same time: Asle Frovoll had one daughter, Inge Frovoll. Steinar
Kravik got Inge's inheritance, Ingeborg inherited from her fathersolely so
her children considered themselves as inheritors of Medalen.
It seems to be the same people, divided the same, who ownedKodalen.
Tord Nilson Frovoll and his wife, Ingebjorg, traded in 1573, goods inNorste-
Gren and got goods in Knive at Eiker.
8. Tord Nilson Frovoll married Ingebjorg Steinarsdatter fromKravik. They
had these children: 1. Steingrim Tordson Prestgarden (Hovland)
2. Birgitte Tordsdatter Gulsvik in Fla. Shetraded farm
goods such that she got 3 properties in Kodalen against two inSkaardum and
one in Frovoll in 1609.
3. Helge Tordson Frovoll. In 1610 he traded farmgoods
with his brother, Steingrim("thesame child both to the father and themother"),
such that Helge got 1 1/2 skins in Frovoll and Steingrim 1 1/2 skinsin Bole.
9. 4. Arne Tordson, at Fekjan in Rollag or Bakke inHovin(?)
Inge Tordsdatter, was dead well before 1603.
Helge was the inheritor of the farm here in 1617, he paid the war taxwith
one silver coin in 1614. Torgeir Gunleikson Bakke in Hyngdal had 8skins
in Frovoll in 1615 and 1624.
10. Torgeir was married to Bergitte Tordsdatter, likely the samewho in
1609 was at Gulsvik. The eight leather inherited properties Bergitte(Berte)
owned in Frovoll, were entered into by nephew Steinar Helgesen around1630
for 60 silver coins.
11. Helge Frovoll owned 3 skins in Frovoll, 1/2 skin in Bole and 21/2
units of value in Evju in Sigdal (1615).
